What's in the box

Confirm before beginning. Contact your dealer if anything is missing.

DC kits include a center stop and additional anchor plates. Face-mount kits include extrusions, corner keys, and self-drilling screws.

03   Tools

Tools required

Anchoring screws supplied are sized for typical wood-framed openings. Match the bit to your screw size if substituting your own fasteners.

  • Drill with 3/16" bit
  • Phillips bit #2
  • Pencil
  • Level — face-mount installs
  • Cleaning cloth with degreaser or alcohol-based cleaner
04   Substrate

Before you start

Use fasteners appropriate for your wall material. Supplied screws are sized for typical wood-framed openings — use substrate-appropriate fasteners if your opening differs.

The sill installation surface must be clean and dry. See Panel 10.

05   Face-mount frame

Build the frame in place

The face-mount frame goes up first. Everything else installs onto it.

1
Fasten the side extrusions
Position both side extrusions in the opening. Use a level to confirm vertical alignment. Leave the top screws a bit loose so you can flex the sides when fitting the top piece.
2
Insert the corner keys
Insert the corner keys into the tops of the side extrusions.
3
Slot in the top piece
Slot the top extrusion onto the corner keys. Use a level to confirm horizontal alignment, then tighten everything.

4-sided: same procedure with a bottom extrusion added. Used when no floor exists for the sill.

06   Top track

Install the top track

The top track has been cut to your opening width at the factory. Dry-fit before fastening; if the top track is too long, measure precisely and trim with a chop saw.

1
Pre-drill 5 evenly-spaced holes
In the top track, before fastening to the header.
2
Position at the head of the opening
Plumb the top track with the bottom surface where your sill will sit.
3
Fasten with the supplied mounting screws
Drive through the pre-drilled holes into the header.

07   Center stop

Install the center stop

For dual-central configurations, the center stop sets the meeting point for both pull-bars in the middle of the top track.

1
Mark the centerline
Find the center of the top track and mark with a pencil.
2
Position the DC stop
Align with the centerline; use the centerline groove in the top track as a guide.
3
Fasten with self-drilling screws
Two of the supplied screws is sufficient.

08   Understand your jambs

Two jambs, two roles

Before you install your jambs, understand which is which. The roles are determined by what's inside each jamb — not by which side they go on. You choose which side gets which role.

Magnet jamb
Houses the magnet strip. The side the screen closes into.
Base jamb
Plain. Receives anchor plates. The side the screen pulls from.

DC: both jambs are base jambs. There is no magnet jamb on DC — both get anchor plates.

09   Install your jambs

Install both jambs

Repeat each step for both jambs. Order between them does not matter.

1
Apply anchor plates
Base jamb only — skip on the magnet jamb. Peel adhesive backing, stick four anchor plates evenly along the center ridge, and drive anchor-plate screws into the ridge.
2
Fit the jamb into the top track
Insert the top of the jamb until it hits the first lip. It should be snug.
3
Fasten to the wall
8 screws total per jamb — 4 per side, evenly spaced — flanking the center ridge. Apply to both jambs.

Direction the screen operates depends on which side gets the magnet jamb. Left-to-right: magnet on right. Right-to-left: magnet on left.

10   Sill

Install the sill

The sill adheres to the floor surface. The adhesive will not bond to a contaminated surface — clean before placement.

1
Clean the floor surface
Use degreaser or an alcohol-based cleaner. The floor must be clean and dry for the adhesive to bond properly.
2
Place the sill in position
Position between the jambs (not under them). The sill should fit under the magnet located in the jamb profile. Confirm alignment before peeling.
3
Peel and press
Carefully peel the adhesive backing from one end while pressing the sill firmly along its full length.

If cold, warm the sill to room temperature before installing. The sill can also be screwed down with countersunk flat-head screws if adhesive is not appropriate. 4-sided face-mount: sill goes on top of the bottom face-mount extrusion.

11   Cartridge

Insert the cartridge

The cartridge is the heart of the system. Be careful not to bend the steel band when inserting it into the top track.

1
Tilt into the system
Bottom of cartridge on the sill, top into the top track.
2
Push into the base jamb
Apply moderate horizontal force until you hear a click. The click confirms the cartridge has latched to the anchor plates.

DC: repeat with the second cartridge on the opposite side.

12   Handle

Install the handle

The handle inserts into a groove in the pull-bar and locks with a quarter turn.

1
Insert the knob at 180°
Locate the knob on the rear of the handle. Insert into the pull-bar groove at 180°.
2
Slide to your preferred height
Position the handle at a comfortable operating height.
3
Rotate to 90° until it snaps
Turn counter-clockwise until it locks into place.

13   Test

Test

Extend and retract the screen several times.

The pull bar should travel smoothly.
It should meet the magnet jamb evenly along its full length, with audible magnetic closure.
It should retract fully into the opposite end.

If any of the above is not true, see Panel 14 — Quick checks, or refer to the Aire Service & Adjustments document.

14   Quick checks

If something doesn't seem right

SymptomFirst check
Screen does not fully extend Cycle the screen open and closed several times. Para-strings can become loosely tangled in shipping; cycling typically frees them.
Screen does not fully retract Horizontal tensioning strings may be too loose. See Service & Adjustments for tension procedure.
Pull bar doesn't reach the magnet jamb Confirm opening width matches the system. The cartridge is built ½" wider than the opening; the gap should close fully.
Cartridge doesn't click into the base jamb Anchor plates may not be aligned. Remove cartridge, confirm anchor plates are evenly spaced along the jamb's center ridge.
Screen runs roughly Debris in the sill chain. Vacuum the chain track. Also check if tensioning strings are over-tightened.
Pull bar is not parallel with the jamb See Service & Adjustments — Parallelism procedure.
Chain has come off the sill By design — the chain releases when the screen is hit. Simply place the chain back on the bottom guide.
Parallelism adjustment
Parallelism adjustment screw, accessed at end of steel band.
Tension adjustment screw
Tension screws are located on the inside of the base jamb profile.
Tension string adjustment
Each tension string corresponds to one screw on the base jamb.

15   Care & contact

Care

The single most important habit:

Close the screen when not in use. If the door or window behind it is closed, the screen does not need to be deployed.

Monthly
Mesh
Vacuum with a soft brush. No cleaning agents.
Monthly
Sill chain
Vacuum to clear debris.
Monthly
Lubrication
Apply WD-40 to the band and chain. Cycle to distribute.
As needed
Wind
Keep retracted in gusty conditions. Wind damage is not warranty-covered.
